CLUB PRO MOD
I am sorry to see what has happened to the NHRA Pro Mod
series, these guys that run it have gone power mad! I thought
the AMS Pro Mod series was headed in the right direction
but they seem to have forgotten a lot of important people
like Jim Oddy (didn't he win a Pro Mod championship or something?).
They are setting up a Pro Mod social club.

A KEPNER FAN
Just wanted to say great job on the UDRA piece!! It's nice
to see a magazine give some coverage for good cause, I think
Bret Kepner did an awesome job and whoever did the photos
was spot on. I wish I could have been there!!! I truly believe
Bret Kepner and Ted Jones are the two most exciting announcers
in the sport.
Jeff, great E mag; keep up the great work!!!
All the way from Germany,
Terrance Smith, TSgt, USAF
Kepner took the photos too. -- Ed.
ON TRACK
Jeff, I too was aghast at the conditions that the NHRA forced
the racers to contend with! The only time I have seen such
a total "one lane race track" was Seattle right
before the pro classes promised not to go back unless the
facility was corrected! Of course they could not do the
same with Pomona, right?
Seems like those that have the courage to stand up and
tell the truth are always punished by those in control who
want the truth overlooked for whatever reasons. Whit should
have been applauded, and maybe back in the pits he was.
I think that the rest of the pro teams should step up and
help Whit pay the fine since he was the only one brave enough
to tell it like it was.

A FEW QUESTIONS
Since you seem to be the only one doing his homework on
NHRA... I have a few questions:

When I joined NHRA in the late 70's were they a non-profit
organization? If they were, how did they change to not for
profit (sic) without a vote by its members?
When NHRA got the POWERade sponsorship, they said they were
going to take the money and re-invest in NHRA for the future.
Any ideas what those investments were? And if and when it
will help?
When I first started running Super Gas Steve Gibbs said
they would adjust the car count by changing the index. It's
been 22 years now; Super Gas is still 9.90, do you think
it's time for a change? Especially since every other class
in NHRA is more than a second faster than it was in 1981.
