JUST WONDERING ABOUT BIKES AND OTHER STUFF
As a long time supporter of Top Fuel Bikes
and crew member for Chris Hand's Winnebego-backed
blown fuel Kawasaki, I would like to ask a
pretty interesting "Just Wondering".
Just Wondering if NHRA would welcome the
Top Fuel Harleys and the Top Fuel Jap bikes
to run in the same eliminator (kinda like
the old days), it's the old Ford vs. Chevy
mentality,

gets
the crowd on it's feet and the money changing
hands in the grandstands. I absolutely can't
stand to watch Pro Stock Bike, I do however
appreciate the engineering that goes into
the machines as well as the extraordinary
abilities some of the riders exhibit.
I get pretty tired of the whining a lot of
the Pro Stock Bike boys and girls do. (We
call them tow bikes by the way.) Wouldn't
it be nice to have someone as talented as
Byron Hines or George Bryce applying those
talents to a class with a little pop in the
tank. I understand there's a lot of corporate
money going into the PS class but I think
it might be spent a little more wisely. You
don't see the crowd leaving the stands when
they bring out a fuel bike, you sure do see
them leave when Steve Johnson fires up though.
On another note, I think Pro Mod is a great
class to watch, they put on one hell of a
show! And I also knew Clayton Harris pretty
well. I used to spend quite a bit of time
on the phone with him (used to make some clutch
stuff for him too) and I absolutely agree
he should be in some sort of Hall of Fame,
he was a true innovator.

HARRIS IN SED HALL OF
FAME
Just read your piece in regards to Clayton
Harris. He is in the NHRA Southeast Division
Hall of Fame; he was inducted in 1990. The
SED hall of fame nominating committee consists
of Don Garlits, Art Malone, Bobby Boyd, Lex
Dudas and at that time Buster Couch. Since
Buster's passing Carl Weisinger has taken
his place on the committee.
