“9. Why is it...that I can hardly
make myself watch drag racing on TV anymore?
I keep trying, but it is just plain and simple
bad TV. Maybe they should try 100%

any gear ratio, any tire
and run the EIGHTH MILE! How do you like
that idea?” I agree about boring television.
There just isn’t any way to broadcast
the sound, smell, and feel, of fuel cars.
I like your idea for 1/8 mile top fuel. My
idea is to outlaw wings, and let them run
1/4 mile. If they can’t hook em up,
they’ll slow down!
“10. Why is it...that no matter how
much racers have to do at home or at work
we can always find time do race car maintenance
(even if we can’t get the mower started!)
We can always figure a way to get off work
early Friday to get to a big race but can’t
get away for that cousin’s wedding
unless it is in the Winter or on a rainy
weekend! Speaking of time why is it we NEVER
HAVE ENOUGH OF IT?” Thank God for that!!
I hope everything goes well for you too.
If you ever make it over to the Ohio area
and want to run NoBox, stop by Dragway 42.
We’d love to see ya there! (Friday,
Saturday & Sunday, October 1, 2, 3 -
$2,000 to win Saturday, $10,000 to win Sunday,
$99 car and driver for the weekend - It is
top heavy!)
Sincerely,

HE ‘GETS’ PAMMY
Pammy, I wanted to commend you on your column
about the NHRA (Neutered Hot Rod Assn?) I
too come from the old days of “Be
there!” and “See if Big Daddy
can teach Shirley who her Daddy really is!” I
too have watched as corporate America has
turned what was once almost an exciting almost
dirty little secret into one big commercial.
Frankly I am bored and rather than tune in
religiously, I often will say to myself,
I really don’t
care who won, it is all the same anyway.
The current nostalgia craze is fun to me
and I hope it does not get too regulated
and commercialized too. Tulsa now has a fine
facility again and I look forward to some
good exciting way it used to be races again.
I also find the IHRA, which we are now sanctioned,
to be a bit more on the edge with its events
and until NHRA makes some changes for the
fans, I will tend to spend my dollars there.
Keep up the good work, your views are enjoyable
to read.

WE’RE CLEAN, EUGENE
Hey Burk: Looks as if NHRA is going to do
something now except collect gate receipts.
My hat is off to YOU sir. You are TRULY the
SPOKESMAN for the unwashed NHRA fan and racer
alike. Keep after ‘em and MAKE them
accountable.
