NOSTALGIA VS ALKY
Very interesting, the idea of letting nostalgia F/C run
against blown alky F/C. I think that if the powers that
be would let the nostalgia cars run with a 6:71 blower,
but allow better heads, larger fuel pumps, etc, then you'd
see a parity with the alky cars. I believe a nostalgia car
could run 5.60's and 265, even with a 6:71 blower. Kinda
makes you wonder what a nostalgia AA/FD could run with some
decent tires. Maybe 5.40's and 270?

SEPARATE BUT EQUAL
In response to your just wondering: Why doesn't the NHRA
and IHRA add Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars using VRA rules to
their AFC class? Division races at both sanctioning bodies
are struggling to attract any fans and I'd bet almost any
track could sell spectator tickets to see injected nitro
dragsters and blown fuel coupes. The Alky funnies would
still dominate.
I would not mind the Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars attending
Division races, but let them run their own eliminator. The
Alky cars don't need the headache that TAD already has.
It wouldn't be long till the Nostalgia Fuel Funny Cars caught
up to the Alky Funny Cars in performance.
If you want to attract fans to division races the track
owners need to try a little advertising. And it may be a
good idea to not have the race the week after a National
event like Div. 7 is doing at 2 races in 2006. They are
obviously depending on the back gate for their money and
not willing to risk any money on trying to draw a crowd.

WE TRY
I just wanted to pass along my "hat tip" on operating
an independent news and opinion site that truly adheres
to the "play the ball where it lies" rule. I sincerely
hope that you and your editorial policy continues to take
this higher road and keeps on telling it like it is, without
the "spin" of sanctioning bodies and other influences!
Those stuffed-shirts (and suits!) who reside in their ivory
timing towers and often make ludicrous decisions deserve
to have their tails twisted as often as necessary. To this
I say: "Keep the pedal down all the way."

DRAG NON-CITY
Darr: Loved the latest article on DRO! And I would not be
surprised to hear the "promoters" of Drag City
dragging your name through some mud for making your honest
and accurate statements.
One note of interest... you missed including the biggest
bracket racing event in the western region by not mentioning
the 2005 Bracket Nationals at Las Vegas over Thanksgiving.
Keep up the good work!
Your deranged bracket and Top Comp racer,
Greg Stanley
PSSSSSSSTTTTT
Darr: Just read your latest column. All I can say is Best
Column I have read in a long time! I can just hear the steam
coming out of Ron and Andy's ears.

NO SLAM, JUST FACT
Darr, I'm so glad you slammed the father and son promoters
of Drag City. Great job and right to the point! I always
look forward to your column, it never disappoints.
I'm wondering if I missed seeing something on Bud 'Light'
(my dad) or if you're still planning to do a little on him?
He would be thrilled, he still carries the Nat. Dragster
that has Dillashaw's article on him, in fact this past weekend
he brought it to the Auto Club Finals and showed it to everyone
that would take the time to look! He ran 9.36 @ 143 in my
Nova at Frank Hawley's Reaction Time Clinic at Fontana just
before the Div. 7 race there. Not bad for an 81 yrs. young
fella.
Take care and thanks,

A PARALLEL UNIVERSE?
Re: Birth of Nitro Funny Cars
Being fairly new to drag racing, I must say I enjoyed [Frank
Oglesby's] 5-part story. However, change a few words like
Nitro and Funny car and it would be like reading about NA$CAR
and how screwed up it is. It does seem that too many rules
kill the racing.
