BETTER THAN NOTHING

I'm not much of a reader but your article on IHRA vs. NHRA got my attention. Especially the comments on NHRA and Banning=No Drag Strip.

If IHRA wants to put a strip around here I would gladly accept it.

Thanks for the good writings.

UPSET SPORTSMAN

I just wanted to say how upset I am about NHRA changing their sportsman format of only have selected classes at selected races. They seem to have forgotten that the pros of today were sportsman racers yesterday. Not every sportsman racer can take time from work to travel an additional four or five hundred miles to make the next closest national event -- that is if their class is in that event, or else they have to wait and hope they get accepted the following year, if the class is not filled.

Maybe now is the time for IHRA to start enticing the sportsman racer, and move west where they are really needed. Or maybe Wally Parks should sack Tom Compton and get a car enthusiast back in control instead of a suit just interested in the bottom line and doesn't give a damn about the racers.

IHRA we need you now more than ever out west. Look what happened to CART when they thought they were indestructible; it could happen to NHRA and maybe needs to, to bring them back into reality of drag racing, and why people drag race and how important the sportsman racer is.

SEPARATE BUT EQUAL?

The recent rule change in the NHRA TAD class: Why don't they just start a class for A fuel dragsters? A fuel races A fuel and Blown races Blown, then at the end of the year the top points earners in each class race each other for the championship?

FASTEST FORD?

You mentioned in your article about fast small block Fords that Bill Glidden has made the quickest and fastest small block Ford pass in history (normally aspirated with Nitrous). Not to discount this in any way, but I don't believe this is true. Mike Lyons has run 7.07 @189 with a 352" Ford in B/D in 2002. In fact, I drove Mike's car in B/ED at Rockingham 2002 and ran 7.08 @ 188 in qualifying. Granted this is not a door car but it is normally aspirated WITHOUT nitrous assist at only 352". Just thought I'd give credit where credit is due. Mike builds an awesome small block Ford!

Brian Seward

According to our reporters, Bill ran a 7.05 in pre-race testing at Bradenton. -- Editor
