Generally I support what I see, but there are too many reasons
to list why I strongly oppose your idea. Throttle stops
can be a safety device if the track conditions do not allow
full power application. Also, racing is geographic, what
is popular in one part of the US, may not be popular in
another. Local racing, with rules that cater to that racer
base are OK.

I love it!!! Great set of rules. Like Mr. Rollins said,
it gives everyone a chance. The worst thing that has ever
happened to drag racing was the invention of the throttle
stop. I do not think much of delay boxes either. The driver's
ability along with tuning skills is what drag racing started
out as and through time has morphed into something that
almost doesn't need a driver.
I do not know how many times I have had to explain why
a car jumps out, then dies, and then takes off like a scalded
ape. The first-time visitor to a drag race has no idea of
what just happened so they are no longer interested. It
is too bad that there are not more tracks like Gainesville.
Hopefully more tracks will adopt a set of rules like these.
Once again, GREAT IDEA and good luck.

This is the best idea that I have heard in a long time.
It could be the future of sportsman racing. I have been
looking for a class to run that does not have candy ass
delay boxes and other driver aids. I run Top Dragster now
but would change in a second for Open Comp format.

Hey Darr, Great article, but I can't believe you're so surprised.
You could have written a similar article 15 years ago and
the same would have applied. Until NHRA or any drag racing
can figure out some way to generate some TV ratings, everything
else is academic IMO. The sponsors follow the audience and
drag racing doesn't have one. I'm even curious how NHRA
ratings are thus far this year.

Thank you for being straight up about the confederate flag
issue. (Div 2 logo). Anyone who thinks that the rebel flag
symbolizes heritage and not hate, has a serious mental problem.

Cole, you know I love ya, but man I thought this was a drag
racing site. You are a great writer but I don't believe
this is the right forum for your latest editorials. There
are plenty of cool things to write about concerning our
sport.
