'THANKS' IS FINE, BUT WHERE'S
THE CHECK?
After reading (Jeff Burk's) notes on napkins article, I
remembered being somewhat surprised that there were no vendors
with fm headsets at the races. We were racing jr dragsters
at the time and had fm radio headphones so we could hear
to make sure the announcer said the right stuff about our
car and driver and sponsors...and to know when to get down
to staging lanes etc. We took the little radios to the Mile
High Nationals and had a great time listening to Bob Frey
and the rest. I thought at the time, what a shock that NHRA
had not thought of selling them along with their earplugs
etc.
I just contacted COBY USA. They make all sorts of electronics
from televisions to DVD players to portable radios and headset
fm radios for under $20.00. Hope we get their attention
and can sell some radios for them.
Thank you for the idea.
Sincerely,
Don Finley

THE REST OF THE STORY
Thank you for your coverage of the ORSCA beginner race in
Huntsville, AL. I think everyone will agree that an awesome
job was done on your part. We as racers need the type of
media coverage that you guys offer. Thanks again for everything.
Just wanted to point out the story behind the EZ Street
winner, Heath Bell, and all he has come through to get to
the winners circle. The 1969 Camaro that he races actually
belongs to his only other sibling, his older brother, another
great driver, Rodger Darian Bell. Heath and all of us that
adored and loved Rodger suffered a great loss in his passing
this September.
The 1969 Camaro was a dream of Rodger's for some time.
Heath and Rodger actually worked together building this
car and moving up in the classes and ranks for years. Heath
had to step back into the master garage alone this time
in order to complete the machine and get her ready for race
time. He had help in the last stages from another racer,
Robert Culver, and a big thanks to R&R Speed Machine
Shop. Not in our wildest dreams did we think that he would
get her ready in time to actually race.
Some call it luck, others may call it just deserves. I
call it hard work, dedication, tears, and a little help
from someone up above. Heath not only made all of us that
support him proud, but I have to believe that his brother
was smiling down enjoying every minute of his success. It
was very hard for Heath to step up and finish what he and
his brother had started. Heath and Rodger were not only
brothers and best friends, but co-workers and each other's
biggest fan. I want to personally thank Heath for helping
to make my husband's dreams come true. We all appreciate
that he dedicates every race and win to Rodger.
Just hope we can keep up the winning streak -- so far so
good!
Thank you for taking the opportunity to read my dedication.
I just felt like maybe only mentioning that he beat Shane
Stack wasn't good enough considering what he had to face
to get here in the first place.
Sincerely,
Kristie Bell
