MISCELLANEOUS THOUGHTS
I was at the recent NHRA Las Vegas race. For someone who
lives in Ohio the hot- not humid weather was a welcome.
Yes, I agree there was not a lot of side-side races. I also
found it to be interesting even with four Top Fuel Dragsters
qualified Team Kalitta could not find its way to the winners
circle. Yes, they got a runner-up-so!!! Also, I agree NHRA
and IHRA need to put mandatory Kill Switches on race cars
that run over 200 MPH!! I just got my Super-Comp. license
this past January in Gainesville, FL at the Frank Hawley
Drag Racing School. I was only running mid-eights at 170
MPH. We had kill switches on our dragsters. I realize this
is a school and I am sure for insurance reasons they are
mandatory. But, I appreciated the Safety Kill Switch. Frank
Hawley signed my license. He's not signing my paychecks
at NHRA or IHRA. I want to be as safe as possible no matter
what the situation is.

A WORD ABOUT BAZEMORE
Martin: Funniest damn column I've read in a while. Who said
you Yanks (presuming you're one of them damn Yankies and
not one of the gentlemen from the south) don't have a sense
of humour. Good shit, and I agree with you a hundred percent.

WHO DOESN'T LIKE ALCOHOL?

Jeff,
I think the reason for Pat omitting alcohol cars at the
Sportsnationals is simple - most other racers and most fans
hate them. Uneducated fans think they are slow fuel cars
and wonder why, while knowledgeable fans and racers know
the drop-off after the top 4 cars in each class is tremendous.
Under funded, undermanned and inexperienced cars and crews
lead to unacceptable oil downs and poor racing. In the time
it takes to run a pair of them, 10 pairs of other Sportsman
cars could run, and that's if they don't have any problems.
Take your own poll. Most racers detest alcohol cars. Admittedly,
fuel cars need a place for drivers to learn and that's a
problem to which no one has an answer.

ALL ALCOHOL, ALL THE TIME
I'm Will Hanna, editor/owner of insidetopalcohol.com. I
just want to give a thumbs up and thanks to your article
about the sportsnationals and leaving the alky cars out.
It's one thing for me to raise hell about it with an alcohol-only
website, but when someone outside of that fence like your
publication raises hell about it, it definitely helps.
That race is more of a super divisional than a damn national.
It just so happens that you have some racing starved fans
down there that will come out if you call it a national.
I think they are riding on that pony for now, but in the
next few years, fans may start to realize this really isn't
a true national. I don't know what the ticket prices were.
I know the Pro Mods put on a good show, but I bet AMS/TLR
underwrote a good bit of their purse. I know its wrong,
but the bottom line is it's a 67k price tag to run both
fields. All this race has ever been from the get go is a
super divisional. High sportsman (entry fee paying) car
count. What it boils down to is NHRA should have stood their
ground and made them put alky cars in. Wishful thinking
I know.

Will Hanna
