SAFETY
RULES
This reminds me a lot of the issue 15 or so years ago when
the professional teams had problems traveling to California
for the Winternationals or World Finals.
If memory serves, the teams were driving over length limit
rigs, hauling fuel that required appropriate placards, etc.,
etc.
I don't like the idea of dealing with over-regulated industries,
however, if the rules are in place for the general public's
safety...I think we should all be following them.
Your article made me wonder how many folks with these double
toter trailers, mini-big rigs, huge 5th wheel trailers have
the appropriate licenses, much less the proper training to
keep myself and my family as safe on the interstate as we
are at the racetrack.
Thanks for bringing this story to light.

SEEKING A STRAIGHT ANSWER
Jok, thanks for your article on the DOT regs. I've been trying
to get a straight answer out of our local CHP office and the
DMV but no one seems to know the requirements. I didn't think
of trying the DOT but I sure will now! Every time I pass a
truck scale I wonder if I'll be seeing a friendly state trooper
with lights on behind me, or maybe not-so-friendly.
Anyway, thanks for the info & keep up the good work!

LOOKING FOR THE LOOPHOLE
This topic was discussed at either superstock forum or class
racer recently and I am pretty sure there is a big loophole
in the regs if your tow vehicle is a motorhome vs a truck.
fyi.

GRASSROOTS ACTION
Thanks for the article. In response we need to contact our
representatives to change this law for us racers.
I currently use a toter with a 46 ft. trailer, and have yet
to be stopped, but know of people that work for our company
that were stopped in PA for a similar violation. We all race
for money, claim it on our taxes, and deduct some expenses.
I will start here in Iowa by talking to Steve King from Odebolt
and pushing on from there.
We should get everyone we know to make calls, write letters,
or what ever means available to correct this problem.
Best regards,
Jeff Rasmussen
HERE'S A POSSIBLE TIP
Jok, I've never been stopped, but other racers tell me that
the truck registration should be in an individual's name and
not a company name. That would classify you as an RV and no
CDL requirements would apply. I've never been to the Midwest
though.
Good article.
