GUESS THEY DIDN'T READ OUR ARTICLE
Jok, glad to see you're back. Excellent article. You're
right, nobody's safe from the DOT. Monday the 12th just
after I read your article a friend called me. He was going
north on Route 218 and guess who the DOT had stopped in
Janesville, Iowa? The NHRA tech trailer! I wonder if they're
as good at getting inspected as they are at giving inspections.
I couldn't help but smile as he told me.

[Editor's Note: Janesville, Iowa just happens to be
the hometown of Jok Nicholson. Coincidence? Hmmmm.]
YEAH, REUNIONS RULE, WALLACE
Yes they do and this year's version promises to be the best
yet. Oh yeah, Famoso-Woody Rd. is now just plain old Famoso
Road. When you exit Hwy 99 at state Hwy 46, check it out.

HEY NHRA, SPORTSMAN RACERS HAVE
DAY JOBS
If you look at the current entry dates for grade point entries
a grade 1 would have got you entered in Indy. Indy has gotten
so drawn out you have to take a week off work to attend.
You just don't get enough track time for the length of time
you are there.

AN UNSOLICITED TESTIMONIAL
I just want to say thank you for the most informative site
on the net regarding drag racing. You guys are right on
the money with the current antics of NHRA, the great info
regarding the DOT and our haulers and trailers and the latest
gossip regarding all the heroes of the drag strip.
Thanks again for the great reporting, interesting viewpoints,
and once in a while a good laugh!
Regards.

WHERE'S THE MARKETING PLAN?
Just a thought: With the demise of the second NHRA national
event in Joliet in 2006, it really makes me wonder about
the marketing abilities of the track and NHRA. I live about
180 miles north of Chicago, 100 miles north of Milwaukee.
I have NEVER seen an ad for this race in our local paper
(and of course I never see any NHRA race coverage). How
much could it possibly cost to blanket local media with
an upcoming race? How much could it cost to have ads on
local radio stations or to have them give out a few free
tickets to promote the race and introduce new fans to the
sport?
The ONLY ads for NHRA races I ever see are during an ESPN2
broadcast of an NHRA event. Isn't this preaching to the
choir? As for the track, raising the cost of burgers and
beers above $6 and restricting what you can bring in is
not going to attract me. This is supposed to be a family
sport, but who can afford to bring their family?
The only way this sport will grow is if we expose more
people to it and get them to a race!
