Pete Millar's "History of Hot Rod Comic Books"

Did you read comic books when you were a kid? Do you still read them?
I read comic books and most of the big monthly hot rodding magazines
when I was a kid, but those comic books always involved cars. My favorites
were the Charlton Comics, Charlton printed comic books from 1946 to
1986 with popular titles like; Blue Beetle, Captain Atom, Atomic Mouse,
Timmy the Timid Ghost, and in the late 1960s picked up titles of King
Comics like Flash Gordon, Popeye, The Phantom, and Blondie.
But by far, the best Charlton titles for me were Top Eliminator, Drag
Strip Hot Rodders, Teenage Hotrodders, and Hot Rods and Racing Cars.
The covers of these comics were wonderful, heroic, colorful illustrations
of the hot rodding and racing culture; that single picture told volumes
about the contents of each issue.
During that period of time, I also loved reading Pete Millar's Drag
Cartoons, CarToons, and Isky Toons. I always thought that Pete had a
kind of twisted, gearhead mind, a guy I could get along with! Well,
Pete is still around drawing funny and imaginative car humor stuff.
I first met Pete online; we kept bumping into each other on eBay. I
noticed that he was against me and me against him for the same Charlton
Comic book titles as I tried to build a collection of hot rodding comics.
Pete finally sent me an email asking if we could work together instead
of bidding up the prices of those comic books. He was after the cover
illustrations and compiling a history of that incredible comic book
artwork. This sounded like a good idea and I would be able to meet a
hero of mine, Pete Millar.
Now Pete Millar has compiled and catalogued these beautifully illustrated
covers in a CD ROM collection entitled the "History of Hot Rod Comic
Books."
You'll find cool stuff from Pete Millar's pen as well as Big Daddy
Roth and years of comic book covers, ads, gags, and lots of the cartoonists
who made it all happen for car enthusiasts like us.
