After he had just set the Motorplex track record for
fuel flops John Force held court with a group of print journalist
to talk about anything and everything for a record seven and one-half
minutes. After giving all of the credit for the Motorplex track record
he had just set at 4.758/322.69 he talked about a variety of subjects
including his drive for a tenth championship and the future of him
and his team.
"There is a good chance that we can re-set the national
record at a 4.73. We'll go to for broke tomorrow. Austin says there
is a lot more in the car."
"We could clinch the title here if we don't screw-up!"
He went on a length about how competitive his team is
internally. He talked about how crew chiefs Austin Coil, John Medlen
and Jimmy Prock all tune a different car for a different driver and
they all believe that they can beat the other.
"The great thing about our team is that right now we
are all having fun doing this. We are a family."
"Right now Jimmy Prock wants to beat Austin and me so
they are making (Gary) Densham eat hay to get his weight down. And
(Tony) Pedregon is driving hurt with some broken ribs. He didn't tell
us he was hurt because he wants to drive so bad.."
Force did back and fill concerning his statement on
a radio interview where he was quoted as saying that he may have as
many as five cars in the 2002 season including the Super-comp team
for his daughter Ashley.
"Let me set the record straight. We'll have two or three
funny car teams and we may also have a Top Fuel car. I won't drive
the car because both Castrol and Ford want me to drive a car not a
dragster. Also I want to say that I will probably still be driving
for Austin (Coil) but I will let my crew chiefs make the decision
about who drives what car. Austin and I have been together for a long
so I will probably be driving for him.
He also revealed that he has re-signed with Ford through
the year 2006 with a very good budget and that Ford is even bringing
some sponsors from the Winston Cup racing over to Force's team.
He also speculated that GM would also bring some sponsorship
to NHRA for some of the GM sponsored Funny Car teams.
Force then gave the assembled media a whole bunch of
really great information that would make the front page of most the
dailies but then just as the media was drooling over the info flashed
his shark-like grin and said "Of course you can't print any of that."
His PR rep Dave Densmore then seemed to breath a big
sigh of relief and escorted Force to his next stop.
