OH, HOW FAR WE'VE COME!!

Checking our fourteen-month calendar, we must concede the new millennium is well under way (some of us preferred the old millennium, but that's another story). With the 2006 season looming large, let's have some fun by considering some obscure factoids from the sport's past. For better or worse, the questions in this month's quiz are about NHRA drag racing. The Quizzter swears he will "broaden his horizons" starting next month!! And Away We Go!

A ONE
B TWO
C THREE
D FOUR
#2 Imagine, if you will, a time when NHRA did not have a cash paying year end points fund. Shocking, we know. What year did they start paying the moola?
A 1970
B 1972

C 1975
D 1976

#3 Women in drag racing are commonplace these days -- not the women, just that they race. Who was the first woman to win an NHRA national event title?
A PAULA MURPHY
B SHIRLEY MULDOWNEY

C SHIRLEY SHAHAN
D PAULA MARTIN

#4 It's hard to dominate an NHRA professional eliminator, but every once in a while, someone does just that. Name the first Pro driver to reach every final round in a given NHRA season.
A GREG ANDERSON
B JOHN FORCE

C WARREN JOHNSON
D BOB GLIDDEN

#5 Stick and ball sports have rookie of the year awards. NHRA drag racing has the Southern California Auto Club Road to the Future award. Who won the first one?

B ANGELLE SEELING

C ANTRON BROWN
D ANDREW COWIN
