GENTLEMEN, FLOAT YOUR BOATS!
When the Old Quiz Master thinks of boating pleasure, he doesn't have in mind luxury cruises to the Bahamas, the Americas Cup, crewing with the Harvard Eight, or even the gondoliers of Venice, Italy. Rather, what floats the collective boat here at Drag Racing Online is drag boat racing -- specifically, Top Fuel Hydro racing. And to get that float, we go to the International Hot Boat Association. Long the kingpins in watery 1320 action, the IHBA sanctions races across the country, with most in the western half of the US. So without further ado, here's a five-pack of Top Fuel Hydro questions to chew on. Chew quickly, lest you take on water and get a big, fat DNQ!
Congratulations to our July quiz winner, Mike Cornelius ! This quiz must have been too easy this month or you're getting better at your trivia. 31 people answered all five questions correctly, but Mike was the first. And now, here are the July quiz answers.
JULY QUIZ ANSWERS
#1 This driver, a member of one of America's foremost racing familles, spent a short stint behind the wheel of a Taco Bell sponsored Top Fuel dragster in the 1990s. Who is he? C JOHN ANDRETTI
#2 Once a feared low post player in the NBA, this man was a big name in early IHRA Pro Mod action. His car name incorporated his uniform number -- who is he? D LARRY NANCE
#3 This man had the misfortune to compete twice a year against the Pittsburgh Steelers twice a year, during that team's fabled Super Bowl run. If not for that he would probably be known as one of the greatest NFL quarterbacks of all time, not just as a solid player and a pretty good Top Fuel pilot during the 1980s. Who is he? A DAN PASTORINI
#4 This man never drove in competition, but he was involved with a Pro Mod car on the NHRA circuit for a couple of years, and did some promo work with the West Coast Pro Mod Association. He is better known as one of the better relief pitchers in recent national League history. Who is he? B ROD BECK
#5 Maybe the most famous crossover king of them all, his success in stock car racing didn't transfer to drag racing. Involved in a crash in which several spectators were killed, his time in the sport was a black mark on an otherwise legendary career. Who is he? D RICHARD PETTY
