Saturday brought another beautiful day and the onslaught of flies continued
until sundown. Saturdays are usually the best attended as the antique
grandstands filled-up early. Beautiful period correct Rat rods, slammed
customs, blown coupes, and junkers crowded into the car show area, although
these participants have little interest in the nitro racing they arrived
in force.
Nostalgia Top Fuel was led by #1 qualifier Gerry Steiner running 5.99
at 244 miles per hour. Steiner said, after removing his helmet on the
top end, "It was a slug out of the hole... then it just took off!"
Apparently the pass was a strong one as he twisted both valve stems
and was losing air as the car came to rest. Steiner's still got a sore
back from his marathon tow back from the Goodguys Indianapolis race
this summer.

and dozens of restored and replica dragsters, roadsters, and coupes
