New Notes and Quotes from the O'Reilly Fall NationalsITS PARTY TIME!
Mickey Winters of Bad Moon Rising Alky funny fame and Bill Hardin who contributes to a lot of racers without seeking any credit really know how to put on a party. Hardin and Winters set up the Elite Hawg Bar-Be-Que and Blues Lounge in the Motorhome area at the 'Plex. Mickey got some musician friends of his to set up on a make-shift stage and then proceeded to feed any and everybody that showed up. The band played until the wee hours of the morning in front of a couple of hundred racers and fans. Even the local Ennis Police came by for some bar-be-que and a soda. A good time ... a very good time was had by all. WHEN THE MUSICS OVER...
Saturday morning photo SETTLES SEARCHING
Dave Settles who has driven and tuned just about every kind of race car that burns nitro or alcohol was strolling through the pits at Dallas. Settles told DRO that he was in the market for a drag racing job as either a tuner or consultant. "I'm still building and servicing my fuel pumps but I would like to get involved with a race car operation again. TOO MUCH TRACTION?
DRO was looking at Randy Meyer's A/FD and noticed that he had marked his tires showing that he had 24 laps on his tires. Twenty-Four laps seemed like a lot to us so we asked him why so many laps and he explained that the A Fuel cars had trouble getting the rpm's up and that new tires often hooked up too much dragging the motor down so he runs his tires many more runs than he normally would. Cory Mac is back... Not Cory McClenathan made his 2001 season debut at the 'Plex driving a car for Bill Ancona. McClenathan made a 5.54 pass on Friday night that put them in the first alternate slot. They came out for the first round on Saturday and absolutely slag-heaped the only motor that the team had. Cory had said prior to that pass that they only had one motor and just enough spares to fix the car if they didn't damage it too much and qualified. They did, they didn't and in all probability they won't be back. Cerney Out Jimbo, Scotty In
Sometimes Agent 1320 is the last to know and that hurts. The agent learned at Dallas that in the last week or so Scotty Cannon's now former crewchief Wes Cerney is no longer calling the shots on Cannon's Oakley back flopper. The agent hears that Scotty wanted to have more of say in the tune-up of the car than Cerney wanted to give him. The agent thinks that considering the way the car has been performing that wasn't an unreasonable demand on Cannon's part. Apparently Cannon and Jimbo Ermalovich are now tuning the car which based on the way it has ran so far at the 'Plex is not a bad thing. Karamesines runs career best at 'Plex Chris Karamesines ran a career best at the 'Plex with a 4.761 in the third round of qualifying. Karamasines told DRO that he was going to run the rest of the races on the NHRA schedule and apparently has no intentions of getting out of the drivers seat anytime soon. " I'm having a lot of fun and not hurting any parts to speak of. As long as I can keep doing that I'll keep driving." Karamesines
also told DRO that he was trying to get the dragster that he drove
to the first 200+ lap in drag racing history fully restored and returned
to the Chicago Museum where it was on display prior to going to the
Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing in Florida.
