This really is quite a case. I mean, here are two cutthroat businessman, they get in a spat, and one winds up going to jail and being financially wrecked. Then the other shows up dead from an assassin's bullet. Naturally, the spotlight would fall on Goodwin. It's basic math. It almost seems too cut and dried.

In past years, a number of people, this writer included, thought that the death of Thompson's nephew in the 1980s was connected to his murder. The nephew was a marketing major in Cocaine 101, screwed up badly, and was thrown out of a plane near Catalina Island. Mickey Thompson is not used to bad grades like that, and some thought that he took a special interest in getting the fliers nailed. However, the fliers were apprehended and sentenced years before the Thompson's killing and that was that.

And so the Thompson-Goodwin tango swirls on. It's obvious that a case is being thrown together on Goodwin and there will be more coming.

So, stay tuned. This writer lives just 40 miles from Bradbury and will keep you posted. Until then, it's all strictly confidential, hush-hush, and on the QT ... or however (novelist James) Ellroy put it.

The End ... for now.
