Belated Happy Birthday wishes go out to Lynn
Prudhomme who celebrated her birthday several
weeks ago. Hubby Don flew in several friends
to Las Vegas where they had the time of her
life partying until the sun came up. Lynn and
Don also celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary
at Steve Gibbs' retirement party. So what is
the "Snake's" favorite pastime of late? "Planting
trees," says Lynn. "Well, not actually doing
the digging or anything but he has a new passion
for having trees planted at the house." Prudhomme
has definitely mellowed from the sixties where
he would rather plant a rear-end housing on
the lawn of the Del- Haven Motel, College Park,
Maryland - which he was known to do on at least
on one occasion after losing an engine during
a match race at Englishtown . . . For anyone
covering the murder trial of Mickey Thompson
you will want to know that his sister, Colleen
Campbell, recently gave testimony in front of
the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee's hearings
on the Crime Victims Constitutional Amendment.
Because of the forum and subject matter, Colleen
was not able to do much more than mention Mickey
and Trudy's murder case, but at least it's a
step in the right direction. "It will finally
mean that victims and honest, law- abiding citizens
will have the same Constitutional rights as
murders, rapists and other accused criminals."
Good work Colleen!

While Whit may be the headliner
of the family, wife Michelle Bazemore is
no slouch when it comes to racing. Michelle
is proud to be one of the few amateur bicycle
racers that even finish a race and has placed
third and fourth at recent indoor events.
Bicycle riding is a passion the Bazemores
share and they both love riding in the Red
Rock country of Arizona. |
Congratulations to Valerie Harrell who, after
years of waiting, was finally awarded her share
of a personal injury case in Kansas City. The
daughter of Funny Car Legend Dickie Harrell
now resides in California with ex-funny car
pilot Dale Pulde . . . . . Don't forget that
D.R.A.W. (Drag Racing Association of Women)
will hold it's first Annual Auction of the year
at Route 66 in Joliet, Illinois, on Saturday,
May 31st. Please forward your auction items
to DRAW, c/o Dave Oxley Construction, Inc.,
16556 W. 159th St., Lockport, IL 60441. Items
should be shipped so they reach D.R.A.W. by
May 23, 2003 . . . Another worthy cause worth
noting is the Drag Racing Program taught by
Robert Donovan at Del Crest Technology Department.
Any monetary contribution would help keep their
program alive as the school district is forced
to close all nonessential programs such as sports,
art and their CO2 drag racing program. Please
send your contributions to Del Crest Jr. High,
c/o Kelly Fry, 4731 Judy Dr., Del City, Oklahoma
73115 . . . On a funnier note Sonnie "Bride-zilla"
Herbert, Doug's lovely wife, simply cannot have
her photograph taken with a flash camera. Her
eyes automatically close as soon as the light
goes off and Sonnie stated that during a recent
family portrait session the rest of group were
getting annoyed at her and she was so embarrassed
for causing such grief among to her family .
. . Barbara Troxel, who drives the country in
her 40-foot motorhome usually accompanied by
hers and daughter's Melanie's Yorkies, Spike
and Toby, has a hidden desire to go skydiving.
When she was a teenager Barbara's mother was
a skydiver and she is trying to talk her daughter
into jumping out of a plane with her on Melanie's
next birthday . . . While Dale Creasy, Jr. and
Gary Densham seemed to lose a lot of their quarters
in the slot machines in Las Vegas at least Dale
had something to brag about, " I got some of
there free beer." . . . Don't forget to send
well-wishes to Andrew Cowin at supportandrew@rocketindustries.com.au.
Andrew is being encouraged back to good health
by his family and girlfriend, Jenny Rhodes,
daughter of racing great Walt and could use
some notes from everyone.
If there is any question
why Steve Gibbs recently retired from his
post with the NHRA, you just need to see
him with his granddaughter Kyla. |
|
A belated congratulations go out to Steve Gibbs
who recently retired as Director of the NHRA's
Motorsports Museum. Daughter Cindy threw a small
get-together with about 300 personal friends.
This will give Steve and wife Gordy the freedom
to travel in their new motorhome, see more of
their grandchildren and attend the two drag
racing reunions in Bowling Green and Bakersfield
. . . To close on a happy note, Jerry Gross's
15-year-old grandson, Adam Pager, is home from
the hospital and recovering from a major car
accident, and although he'll have months of
rehabilitation ahead of him "he's young and
will mend fast." Next time Adam gets in a car
we're betting he wears his seat belt.
Until we meet again, Suzy welcomes your input
