He also went into detail about why he feels his unique "mono-shock 4-link rear suspension" is the best choice. The custom-made rear suspension is a work of art and defines Jim's approach to racecar construction. I sat in Kyle's car as Jim measured everything. Proper brake and throttle pedal location, where I wanted the steering wheel, the instrument panel, shifter location, switches, chassis width at the shoulder (I opted for the 24-inch "wide boy" so I can turn easily to back up in the pits and such).

All the pedals, dash and steering are adjustable after I get it home but it was nice to get the personal service. Some other services he offers is complete wiring (man, does he do a superb job), plumbing and final assembly including installation of your engine and transmission if you so desire.

We spent an hour or so discussing options like wheels, tires, cooling systems, etc. and when we ready we decided it was time to sign the contract and make the deposit. With most chassis builders you will be required to make a non-refundable deposit, usually 50%. The contract should detail EXACTLY what you both expect. In this case the contract was very well written and easy to understand. It had set dates that one more deposit (25%) will be due and the "guaranteed completion date" when I could pick the car up and of course make the final payment. If I make any changes in equipment along the way Jim will send me a Work Order so it can be added to the contract.

When I left Dragstar Chassis Company I was confident I would have an extremely nice dragster built as I wanted it. As I'm writing this first article in our series Jim is finishing up the main chassis and is hard at work on some of the "little things" that I think you will agree set Dragstar Chassis apart from the rest.

The next article will feature some photos of the actual construction of the chassis and components. I hope you will check in with DRO in a couple weeks as we get things going on Project 4-Link.
