I just knew my first few runs would not go without something weird happening…I was right. The problem with the ‘chute was NOT me hitting the release handle, but it was a few minor adjustment problems that ended up causing it. The cable was adjusted a little short, the release rod on the ‘chute was adjusted too short and the pivot for the release rod was actually working too freely. I tightened up the pivot, lengthened the cable and release rod and no problems since. Finally made a couple more runs and they went well. The next two runs were 5.39 @129 and a 5.38 @130 (the 60 foot times were only 1.280 so there is a lot of e.t. left when we crank up the launch RPMs). Andy made three runs and had no problems either. The “old guy” still has low e.t. at 5.38! Man, is it a rush to be “glued” into the seat all the way down the eighth mile! I am impressed by the constant “pull” of the Indy Cylinder Head 542-inch wedge. We also found out that our torque converter was too “tight.” The playback tach feature of the Digital Delay Mega400 delay box is an ideal way to see if the converter is working. We found out this converter had a “flash” of only 4200 RPM which is way too tight for what we want to do. If you buy quality parts, the benefit is the manufacturer will stand behind them. In this case, Mike’s Transmission will make the proper adjustments at no charge. So, the first weekend at the strip wasn’t without its embarrassing moment but, what the heck, we didn’t blow anything up and everything worked perfect. One more thing….we had a couple heavy rainstorms roll through and our DRAGTARP saved a lot of clean up. Thanks to Karen at DRAGTARP – the cover worked great!
