I'm needing some tips and info on installing a straight axle on my
'55. I'm planning to use a 4-inch drop single leaf spring with radius
rods (old Ford style). I want the suspension to be able to accommodate
a big block. Would it be possible to use coil-over shocks along with
the single leaf if needed?
Thanks, Donnie
Donnie,
Coil-over shocks on a single leaf spring would be fine. I believe it
will help support the weight of the car better. Set tow end 1/16-inch
towed in (0 camber) 5-degree caster leaning spindle back. The big block
should be no problem. Mounting correct engine height and engine angle
to rear end. Make sure you install the axle straight with the car and
center in the wheel well opening.
