QUESTION 1:

I have a 3100-lb nitrous-powered big block Camaro. Motor is in stock location. It has 10.5 wide tires. It has run a best of 8.48 at 160 mph with a 1.25 60-ft. When the track hooks good, the car will 60-ft that, but when it's slick out it spins bad and runs like a 1.34 60-ft.

It seems like if the car pulls a good wheelie, it 60-ft fast and if it barely pulls the front wheels, it spins and the 60-ft goes away. When the front wheels do come down it seems to unload the rear tires slightly.

Is there anything I can do to help that out? My ladder bars are currently set uphill 3 to 4 degrees. Where would you suggest me setting them? Also, it seems like I have to run a lower tire pressure than most people to hook well (7.5psi) What tire pressure do you recommend to my application?

Cliff:

I would try to run your ladder bars down lower in the front and reset your pinion angle. You need to scale the car and make sure the rear weight is 50% with driver in the car at ride height. Once you are set up this way, you should be able to run more air in the rear tires.

QUESTION 2:

You said earlier that most of the ladder bar set-ups run a diagonal link or a wishbone. I am running a panhard bar. Is this right or wrong? I would like to know what you think about this.

Richard:

Panhard bars have an arch that they travel through. As the suspension travels, your rear suspension moves slightly side to side throughout the travel. I recommend diagonal links for ladder bar systems as they don't have this arch to travel through.
