Dear Rick,

I am building a tube chassis for Competition Eliminator doorslammer and I am wondering about the torsion bar for the rear end. Is the goal to have the bar as stiff as possible, or is it preferable with some flex?

Anders,

You want the torsion bar to be stiff, but it will still work if there is a limited amount of flex

Dear Rick,

I have some questions about the wheelie bars for my vehicle. Here's the rundown on the car:106-inch wheelbase; 3400 lbs; 28x10.5-inch slicks (275/60 15's for drag radial classes); 3.89 gears; Powerglide transmission with transbrake, 31-inch ladder bars. My twin turbo small block V8 makes approximately 1400 hp.

There are no class restriction on wheelie bar lengths. I'm hoping to go mid-8's or better at 170-175+ mph.

I have some 84-inch bars which I haven't assembled yet. I was thinking of keeping them this length. What would be a good length and why is that better than any longer/shorter lengths for this combination?

Thanks in advance.

Todd Matsubara

Todd,

For your application, I would make the wheelie bars 70 inches from the center of the rear end to the center of the wheelie bar wheel.

Thank you for your questions.

Rick
