Tim:

I am building a Chevy S-10 drag truck, with a 406 small block with all the good stuff. It has a narrowed 9-inch rear end with 4.56 gears and 31-inch tires. I have two powerglides to choose between and build - an original cast iron case and an aluminum case. Which one will be stronger and more reliable?

Thanks,

Dan Bullington

Dan,

Definitely go with the aluminum powerglide case. There are a lot of options today for powerglide transmission cases including Dedenbear and J.W. if you're looking for a bulletproof unit. If a stock case is in your budget the aluminum case will work great. Up until a few years ago that stock case was in every automatic car at the drag strip.
