Check Out That Chassis

I have a SG Camaro with a full chassis and cage. The car weighs 2,965 with the driver.  I have ladder bars and coil overs front and back.  The rears are single adjustable that I run at 3 to 4 clicks from soft..  496BBC with  powergilde. The 60' is 1.31 on a 9.90 pass.  Reaction times on a pro tree are a challenge.  Is there any advantage to double ajustable shocks in the back?

Bill,

The shocks you have will work, but a good double adjustable shock would make it easier to tune the car. A video camera will be your best tool to improve your RT. Some S/G cars have this problem and one of the fix’s is to get the car to pick the front wheels out of the lights, this is .030 quicker then driving through the lights. I would move the front of the ladder bars up a hole so it hits the tire harder and limit the front end travel to about 1 ½” this should help your RT. Your shock setting should be 4 to do this.

Call us when you are ready for those new shocks.

I have read  contrasting reviews regarding quad shocks on 1986 through 1993 fox body Mustangs. Some reviews recommend to retain and some say scrap, especially if you have replaced rear control arms with high performance units. I understand that the quad shock helps eliminate wheel hop, so am confused why the recommendation is to not use with high performance rear control arms.

I enjoy your articles very much...thanks

Al,

The quad shocks on your Mustang is basically the factory’s band aid for the movement in all of the bushings in the control arms. The best way we have found is tube control arms with urethane bushing and 1 pair of adjustable shocks. This is the best stock type suspension you can bolt on. We have control arms and shocks that will bolt right on your car, along with the stock anti-roll bar. This will make your car leave better and handle better on the street too.

Give us a call we will hook you up.
