FUELforTHOUGHT

I have a 14-1 383 Chevy stroker that makes 620 hp on race fuel. I would like to try it on alcohol to make added hp. My fuel pump and lines are alky compatible. What else would I have to do to convert? Also, will nitrous work with alky?

Thank you for any help you can give.

Carl,

Let's put a Tunnel Ram fuel injection on it and be done with it. Having said that, I assume you are talking about an alky carb setup. I don't do carbs but here is a start. Get an alcohol dominator from one of the professional carb builders, like Pro Systems, Braswell, etc. Your choice.

You will also need a pair of double needle/seat float bowls from McClintic Industries (505-292-1311) and a Koehler Fuel Control. Lose the foam in the fuel tank and remove any filters, as they will be a flow choke.

As to the nitrous, most folks use gasoline as the fuel enrichment even with an alky carb or fuel injection. It is a little easier to grasp for most than an alky/alky setup. Regardless of enrichment fuel, you will need a complete separate fuel system for the nitrous system to avoid tuning problems.

Here is a photo of an alky carb with the McClintic bowls that I custom hard lined a Koehler Fuel Control into.

Have a safe race.
