Timing is Everything:
Technology in drag racing has always moved forward at an incredible pace. (At least, where rules allow it.) Serious racers and engine builders grasp new technology and ideas in hopes of finding a way to squeak out another hundredth or an additional mile per hour. They are constantly "racing" at their machine shops and dyno cells. As a result there are always quicker e.t.s and faster runs. Every year, drag cars continue to rocket down the 1320 with continual improvement. The first sub-seven-second run in Pro Stock was recorded just two seasons ago, but by the last NHRA race of the century the bump spot for the sixteen car field was a remarkable 6.963! How do they do it? It's the attention to minute details and the technology to turn minute details into horsepower gains. The first sub-seven-second run in Pro Stock was recorded just two seasons ago, but by the last NHRA race of the century the bump spot for the sixteen car field was a remarkable 6.963! How do they do it? It's the attention to minute details and the technology to turn minute details into horsepower gains. One area that all successful racers pay particular attention to is ignition timing. Racers hate to compromise and ignition timing is one area that engine builders have had to concede to its limits of adjustments. No matter how perfectly designed and set up some of these engines are, there are still variances in the flow of air and fuel. These variations are enough to produce slightly different requirements in each cylinder as to when a spark should occur to achieve optimum power and try as they may, racers have never really had a way around this. Until now.
The technology to change the timing from cylinder to cylinder is available in a new ignition package from MSD Ignition. The Programmable Digital-7 Ignition system is loaded with adjustable features that racers, tuners and engine builders will be in awe of.
What if you have two cylinders that run lean and require a few degrees of retard to perform the same as the other six? The Digital 7 can do it for you. Though the Programmable Digital-7 Ignition is new, cars have already won with it, including '99 Pro Stock Champ Warren Johnson and NMCA Super Street Champ Bill Glidden, plus other Pro Stock drivers such as Mike Edwards, Kurt Johnson, Jeg Coughlin and more!
