TURBOCHARGED CAR DOMINATE NMCA
At
the recent NMCA event at Maple Grove Pennsylvania the nitrous
racers fear that turbocharged cars would dominate the class
seem to be proven, when the turbocharged cars won again. Bob Rieger
set low E.T at 6.806 and beat fellow turbo car Rod Saboury in
the final with a 6.808. Rieger also took the E.T. record away
from Christian with a 6.792.
SUMMERS GOES 211 IN PRO STREET!
Former Pro Street World Champ Annette Summer recently
got a 211mph time slip at an NSCA race held at Bowling Green,
Kentucky. It is reported that Summer now has a five inch bore
center, Gene Fulton-built bullet between the rails and that IHRA
Pro Mod star Shannon Jenkins was working on the car that weekend.
Summers backed up the 211 with a 210 and change lap during eliminations.
Congratulations from the boys ar Drag Racing Online. Sorry for
the delay in posting this information.
BILLY GlIDDEN ASKED TO MOVE
NMCA
officials verified that they have talked to Super Street star
Billy Glidden about moving up in class to either Pro Street or
Outlaw Street for the 2000 season. It is rumored that Glidden
has no interest in moving to another class because he can race
his world beater Mustang at so many events. Never the less, his
dominance in Super Street is causing NMCA to get a lot of flack
from other racers. As one NMCA official was heard to say, "It
would sure make my life easier if he would get out of the class."
PRO STREET RULES RUMORS
It
isn't a sure thing but Agent 1320 was told by a high ranking NMCA
official that he was tired of seeing late model body styles in
the final rounds of Pro Street and that if he were to make rules
changes for 2000 they might be to make it more attractive for
fifties and sixties body styles to be built for Pro Street competition.
Are you listening Tony and Pat?
S/S 'STANGS GET SLAMMED BY BODY RULES
In an effort to slow down NMCA's Super Street
cars (more specifically the Mustangs) NMCA is rumored to be considering
implementing the following: Not allowing the Mustangs to have
forward facing scoops; not allowing dry sump oil systems which
would get the cars off of the ground; and removing some of the
ground effects body panels. Agent 1320 also hears that carbon
fiber body parts will be outlawed because of cost. These actions
might be a tad late.
MOYERS NEW '57 PRO MOD
Carl Moyer tested his
brand new Rick Jones-built '57 Chevy Pro Modified recently
and Agent 1320 just happened to be on site. The ultra-sleek
'57 is the product of many hours of work by Moyer's crewchief
Dave Carnack |
Carnack
built the plug that the '57 body was built with. The body
itself is highly modified with the roof being moved back
on the body, the body narrowed, and it doesn't have any
wheel tub bubbles. The car weighs 2404 with Moyer in the
car and in the initial tests it went a couple of 6.50+ laps
at over 210. Moyer was all smiles and remember -- Agent
1320 brought you the first pictures of the ride. |
.WILL CHRISTIAN GET BLOWN?
Tony
Christian has managed to win a least a piece of every NMCA Pro
Street World Championship in recent memory driving a series of
doorslammers powered by Nitrous Oxide Systems-equipped Reher-Morrison
rat motors. This year turbocharging has become the dominant powerplant
in Pro Street, winning all but one race. Christian is making noise
about building a turbocharged entry of his own if NMCA doesn't
give the nitrous contingent rules that would make them competitive.
"I'll build a turbo car that will make the
rest of them sick," Christian said. "My guys (Reher-Morrison)
built the V-6 in Buddy Ingersoll's Buick and it went almost 200mph
ten years ago."
With the current NMCA turbo cars going 6.70's
and winning everything in sight Christian may be building one
right now.
SIGHTUMS
Agent
1320 saw this new IHRA Pro Mod after it was unloaded at a remote
track in Arkansas. Unfortunately, the armed and unfriendly driver
wouldn't let us hang around for the test session
HAGERTY SURFACES
West
Coast Pro Mod maven Randy Hagerty, whose AHRA Pro Stock World
Championship is just a golden memory, recently resurfaced on the
West Coast Pro Mod tour. Hagerty, who until recently had been
campaigning his former Carl Moyer 'Vette, showed at Boise, Idaho
driving the former Mike Castellana '63 split window 'Vette. Hagerty
drove the Vette to a 6.80/198 in its first outing to qualify for
the 12-car program.

While
visiting Nitrous Guru Dave Koehler's Illinois shop we snapped
this photo of his experimental T/D intake manifold. Don't ask
