RICKIE SMITH LEAVES YATES, JOINS KORETSKY
It didn't take long for the multi-talented Rickie Smith to ankle
the Yates Pro Stock camp. Agent N2O hears that Rapid Rickie didn't
know he was going to tune two cars nor that, if he did tune a
second car, he wouldn't be driving it. Smith qualified his Charlie
Buck-powered Pro Mod 'Vette into the eighth spot at Darlington
with a 6.42, but took an early exit.
CASTELLANA'S CORNER CAFE
New
York racer Mike Castellana had some trouble in qualifying his
'57 Chevy which uses Shannon Jenkins lease motors for power. His
malt shop display on the back of his trailer was, however, a very
popular stop.

STOTT GOES 227?
In his first round upset defeat of Fred Hahn, Quain Stott got
a speed on the scoreboard of 227.42. Since he didn't get within
five mph of that speed the rest of the event, we will assume the
speed wasn't correct but it was still cool to see it on the board
from a nitrous car.
ECW BACKS CARL SPIERING'S PRO MOD
Former
NMCA competitor Carl Spiering, who ran a Camaro in NMCA Outlaw
Street competition, came into Darlington with Dave Persico's 1967
Camaro. Spiering, who tuned the Outlaw Street car he worked on
to the NMCA speed record, just missed the stout Pro Mod field
by nine-thousandths of a second. The 2700 lb. Camaro ran 6.488
/ 215.72.
