Ed. Note:  Wady Hamam or Pro Mod Wad as he is known in the sport as drag racing's main nitrous Guru. He has been involved in nitrous oxide injection almost from its inception especially with the Pro Mod division.. He is originally from the Buffalo, New York area and has been involved in all types of racing from flat track motorcycles to fuel dragsters. In his wasted youth he even raced a fuel funny car powered by a blown and injected small block Ford! He and his brother campaigned a front motored Top Fuel dragster and lost a race against Don Garlits at the now closed Niagara Falls Dragway. His advice about nitrous problems is highly sought after but he is hard to get to. He has agreed to answer one question every couple of weeks for Drag Racing Online readers. Email your questions to: promodwad@racingnetsource.com, and he will answer the question he finds most intriguing.

QUESTION 1

Wady,

Would it be possible to install spray bars in a late model LT-1 intake manifold? I can't see any obstructions that would prevent this operation. It should be about as straight forward as a tunnel ram spray bar setup. Who would I need to contact to have this work performed?

Thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

Bo Woody
Oklahoma City, OK

ANSWER 1

Hi Bo,

As I am not quite sure that spray bars will work in your LT-1 manifold I would like to suggest to you that you check with the nitrous companies that sell the nozzle that sits under the injector nozzles on your manifold. This allows you to spray nitrous in the engine along with your fuel.

As far as someone to plumb spray bars for you try So Cal Speed at 909-469-6171 or Koehler Injection at 217-469-7663.

I am sure either of these companies can help you and thanks for writing.

QUESTION 2

Hey Wad,

Could you elaborate on the best nozzle placement for 1 fogger system when using mechanical fuel injection with alcohol. Where would you put each set of nozzles for optimum performance? You got me hooked at Bristol's 1995 Spring Nationals when we picked up 2 1/2 tenths to qualify in top Dragster with NOS, only on a timer for 2 seconds

and a .067 jet through a plate. Scotty Cannon lent me the CHROME 10 oz. bottle off his Harley!!

Nothing beats the feeling of a successful last session qualfying pass that exceeds your personal best with an unknown tune-up!

ANSWER 2

Hey DESTROYER,

Long time no see. Sounds like you're still at it and doing well, I hope. If you are putting nozzles in the runners, mount them just above the injector nozzle so the nitrous mixture will carry the alcohol with it into the cylinder head and combustion chamber. I would recommend that you use racing gas through the nozzles so that you can fine tune your performance.

Great to hear from you and thanks for the question.

Your buddy,
Wady Hamam
