Doug Herbert has Johnny West on board tuning with Larry Frazier for
the 2002 NHRA season. Herbert ran a best of 4.79 at only 251.39, which
indicates co-crew chiefs Frazier and West are making Herbert some serious
power.
Other racers making their first-ever laps in Fuel cars included Tempe,
AZ driver Gene Davis in the Davis and Zook dragster and Bob Hallock,
both of whom were trying to license. Jack Chrisman's son, Steve, also
was at Phoenix to get his Top Fuel license in former alcohol standout
racer Gary Turner's new Top Fuel car.
