QUESTION 1   QUESTION 2

Mike,

I have a '66 Nova with a small-block Chevy with a 400 behind it with a trans brake. I am having a problem when I leave the line when using the trans brake. The car will pause for a minute; the engine dies down like it has too much load on it and then it will pick back up and the car will leave under full power. When I leave without using the trans brake, just footbraking, the car has no problem. I don't know if this is a transmission problem or an engine problem. I have tried changing the timing and jet changes on the carburetor, but have had no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike Law

Hi Mike,

We have a C-4 behind an injected Windsor in a dragster and want to run a trans brake. What do you suggest to make it reliable and consistent for bracket racing and is there a brake that you would recommend?

Thanks,

Peter

Mike,

If the car is leaving coming off the brake, it may be sloshing fuel away from rear jets; you possibly might need jet extensions. Usually the car will leave harder off the trans brake than it will off the foot brake. If the car sits there or moves under stress, maybe the trans brake isn't releasing cleanly. A TH400 trans brake is tough; not many work well. Just some ideas.

Thanks,

Mike

Peter,

The C-4 is a good little trans. Mike's Trans has a good reverse pattern brake for C-4. It's pretty much a bolt-on deal. This can get you some good reaction times along with better 60-foot times.

Thanks,

Mike
