G, day Mike. I'm running a 3000 lb. half chassis car. At the moment it 60 fts. terrible at 1.5 seconds. It's a 620 hp 400 Chevy 4.56 diff. gears and has 31 inch tires. It has got 1.76 first gear ratio with a 5600 rpm converter. After research I think the one st. gear ratio is way too soft because of the weight of the car. Do you think the car needs a ratio in the 2s?

Thanking you,

Steve

Steve,

More gear would help depending on where the engine wants to run. Usually big small blocks have a lot of torque over a broad rpm range. It sounds like you may have a pretty big cam that is killing some bottom, mid-range power. I think that you could probably put some more gear in the rear 4.88, 5.13 or 1.96--low in the transmission could help. A little work on the motor combo for more mid-range torque might be a good idea too.

Thanks,

Mike
