Mike,
Park isn't engaging in my
powerglide. It rolls right through it and you
can hear popping. Is the pawl not engaging or
could it be broken?
Thanks,
Benji |

Benji,
Just think about it, those parts in your glide,
the parking pawl and other related components may very well
be forty years old! They might be worn out; those items
are normally not something that is replaced often. This
problem is not out of the ordinary at all. To check it out,
first unhook the shift cable from the shift lever. Put transmission
in park and try to roll the car. If the car will hold park
you have a cable adjustment problem and you

need to readjust
your cable. If the transmission does not hold park it is
an internal problem such as linkage, rooster, spring, shaft,
cog or bracket. It may be a combination of all these pieces.
You should look them over and possibly change them all.
The transmission in your racecar controls its movement,
even in park!
