Mike,

I have a 1969 Chevelle SS with a GM 454 425hp create motor with 400TH transmission. What will be the best rear end gear ratio for street / drag strip, and what size and brand rear tires do you recommend?

Thank you,

James Keith

James,

Crate motors usually do not have big cams so they usually have good bottom end and mid range torque. With that said we do not need as much gear as an all out race motor. We want to use that torque so we do not want too much gear!  I would say 3:73, possibly 3:55 maybe lower if the car is more of a quarter mile set up.  As far as a tire call,  Mickey Thompson about some drag radials they flat work good !!!!
