A bushing is added inside the front pump
stator shaft for extra input shaft support.
This is crucial to turbine survival when
using a turbo type converter. Stock Powerglide
converters have a bushing in the converter
itself for turbine support, whereas turbo
type converters do not.
A new stator shaft is splined, and pressed
into the pump housing. Worn factory stators
are prone to spinning in the housing on
starting line, which destroys the torque
converter's abilty to multiply torque.
An aftermarket hi-power "red lined" material
is applied to the bands for superior holding
power.
The 4340 alloy steel output shaft is welded
into the carrier. The super-tough alloy
prevents spun splines in the back of the
carrier. This is a dragster type "shorty"
shaft.
The planetary gears spin around the sun
gear on serviceable and replaceable precision
ground axles. Stock Powerglide axles are
swedged into the carrier and are difficult,
if not impossible to service.
