Although Steve Torrence has won twenty-one of his last seventy tour starts, he has never reached the final round at the season finale, much less hoisted the winner's trophy. He'll try to end that drought in Sunday's eliminations at Pomona where he'll be trying to win for eleventh time this season.
He has already clinched the $500,000 Mello Yello Top Fuel championship, but he looks for perfection by winning the sixth and final event of this year’s Countdown.
The Texan is the first driver to win titles in both the Fuel and Alcohol divisions (TAD world champ in 2005.) [11/06/18]
Currently, Harmon is the owner since 2013 of ProMark performance consulting, based in Bradenton, FL. He also currently serves as co-owner of ProMedia LLC in Santa Ana, CA, the parent company of the NMRA and NMCA. [11/06/18]
For their first Top Sportsman race of 2018, Mick Snyder and the Evolution Race Development Team traveled just an hour from the new shop in Fort Worth to the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, TX, for a fast Mid-West Pro Mod Elite 16. The six-time season champs and their unconventional Supercharged, ComSyncEFI Top Sportsman combination gained a great deal of exposure and learned a lot.
“While we are still learning a lot from the new-to-us Camaro, we were able to get Raegie to go straight and put the ole girl at the top of the qualifying sheet. We went down the track every attempt and gained a ton of data with the extra qualifying shots. This new Snyder Motorsports Test Vehicle is going to be fast,” Snyder said.
“In a strange turn of events with a rerun, we were able to turn the win light on twice in the first round, before losing on a bye run with an oil leak after the burnout. I have never lost on a bye that I can remember, but we split an oil line, not at the crimp but in the middle of the line, and were shut off. In racing there are a million ways to lose, I think I just found the millionth and one. If something odd like that is going to happen, I’m glad it happened there. We still have a shiny, unwrecked and fast hot rod to go play with again before we call a close to our 2018 season.” [11/06/18]
NHRA officials announced today that three dates on its 2019 NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series schedule have been changed. The final three events of the season will now take place as follows:
Oct. 17-20: AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals, Dallas
Oct. 31-Nov. 3: NHRA Nevada Nationals, Las Vegas
Nov. 14-17: Auto Club NHRA Finals, Pomona
The schedule refinement moves the AAA Texas NHRA FallNationals to take place after the NHRA Carolina Nationals in order to streamline travel across the country during the Countdown To The Championship, now moving east to west. These revisions also accommodate the dates of the 2019 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, which traditionally occurs immediately following the NHRA Nevada Nationals. Having the two events in close proximity to each other allows the entire racing community – fans, sponsors, teams, track operators and auto enthusiasts – to attend both events. [11/06/18]
"We're excited to crown all of the new champions not only in the Mello Yello series but also the Lucas Oil classes as well,” Coughlin added. “There's just a lot of neat stuff going on and we still have some ambitions of our own at a track where we've had great successes in the past. It's going to be a big race for us as a team as we try to continue some great momentum and end the year in style." [11/06/18]
Edinburg Motorsports Park in the south Texas Rio Grande Valley, has signed a multi-year renewal with the IHRA. First used as a drag strip in 1953, the former Moore Field Auxiliary Air Strip boasts a multi-motorsports facility including a quarter-mile drag strip, a mud drag track, an autocross course, and a motocross track.
Zaith Rodriguez (Top) and Humberto Revino Jr. (Mod) won IHRA Summit SuperSeries track championships in 2017. [11/06/18]

The F-3X-143 centrifugal supercharger, mounted to ProCharger’s new gear-drive unit supports over 3,500 hp and is mainly run in Pro Mod cars. The gear drive won “Best New Race Product” at the recent SEMA Show. [11/06/18]
