RACE REPORTS
AGENT 1320
T.G. Paschal (shown) of McLeansville, NC, and Kelly Stevens of Hudson, NC, are expected to begin defense of their respective Top Eliminator and Footbrake championships April 6-7 when racing begins in the 2019 Hoosier Tires Carolina Coalition Bracket Series.
April 6-7: Farmington Dragway
June 1-2: Mooresville Dragway
June 15-16: Piedmont Dragway
Sept. 7-8: Rockingham Dragway
Each track will host one Coalition event consisting of separate Saturday and Sunday races crowning champions in Top Eliminator, Footbrake and Jr. Dragster.
Coalition racers will compete for both points and prize money with a $5,000 payoff to winners in Top Eliminator, $2,000 to Footbrake winners and $200 to winners in Jr. Dragster. Accumulated points will determine the distribution of a $4,000 year-end bonus fund. The three champions will be awarded distinctive Carolina Coalition jackets and, if they raced on Hoosiers during the season, the Top Eliminator and Footbrake champions also will earn a set of Hoosier racing tires. It somehow seems appropriate that Steve Torrence had the quickest time on Wednesday at the Pro Winter Warm-up at Arizona’s Wild Horse Pass Raceway Park with a 3.725 at 217.66 mph. He was followed by his father Billy with a 3.742/326.16. Several other teams were making full and half-track runs with more to come.
Forecast for Thursday is 67 degrees, which sounds a little chilly until you realize that most of the U.S. is below (some places well below) freezing. That seemed to suit the champ fine as he has already run a 3.68 today.[01/31/19]
The Agent has gathered a little more information about Lee Callaway’s move to Top Fuel this season that we told you about on Monday. Bobby Lagana reportedly will be tuning the dragster. [01/31/19]
Every Demon got a 9-second time slip. The fastest time on the quarter mile by a stock Demon was 140.12 mph and the quickest time was 9.71 seconds. One stock Hellcat Redeye Widebody ran a record-breaking 10.34 ET. [01/31/19]
The NHRA on FOX team recently received two Davey Awards from the Academy of Interactive and Visual Arts, an invitation-only body consisting of top-tier professionals from media, advertising and marketing firms.
The Women of Power campaign premiered in May during NHRA’s Southern Nationals in Atlanta and has been seen by nearly 48 million people since the launch. The show opening for the NHRA national event featured a powerful montage of the history of women in drag racing.
A second Davey Award was given for the opening during the NHRA Arizona Nationals in Phoenix entitled “the Sound of Fire in the Desert” a Percy Shelley-style poem about drag racing. [01/31/19]
Moroso Valve Covers with Oilers
Moroso introduces SBC 2 Piece Billet Aluminum Valve Covers with oilers, Part No. 68051, to fit SBC 13 to 23 Deg. Cylinder Heads. These 2-3/4" tall all billet aluminum 2 piece valve covers have valve spring oilers built into the lower rail. The lower rail bolts to the head with the supplied hardware and the upper portion is removable with an O-ring seal. Allows inspection/ maintenance of the valvetrain without spilling oil all over the headers by having to remove the entire cover. The spring oilers have .025" dia. removable jets. Each lower rail has multiple oil supply ports that the supplied -4 AN male fittings or plugs can be screwed into. Having multiple oil supply ports makes plumbing routing easier in Sprint Cars, Dirt Late Models and other applications. A single 2 piece valve cover with valve spring oiler rail, fittings and hardware weighs 3.10 lbs [01/31/19]
