Okay, and as for Funny Car well, 50th Anniversary World Series winner Tim Wilkerson put himself in the “Chicago-style” final with 5.325, 224.10 that covered Jack Wyatt’s game 5.45, 236.88 in the Race Girl 2002 Firebird. Just missing the money was Frank Pedregon’s Dutch Mafia Dodge Avenger logged a 5.73, 176.47 to a 7.45, 112.39 win over John Lawson in Dale Creasy’s Camaro.
And almost as an anti-climax, Tony Schumacher’s new US. Army (just 8 runs old) dragster shutoff early to a 5.004, 225.71 to an 8.272, 100.63 win over Scott Palmer in the “NitroPlate” dragster. Schumacher said prior to the event, he would make two laps in the car then turn it over to teammate Melanie Troxel.
The special legendary Top Sportsman/Pro Mod race featured “Animal Jim” Feurer overstaging his ’77 Mercury Zephyr handing the win Eric Larsen’s 7.81, 177.72 in the Arnie Beswick-styled “Mrs. B’s Grocery Getter” Pontiac station wagon, the one modeled after the car Beswick drove to the Stock title at the 1963 NASCAR Winternationals title.
One other pass of note is Greg Benson ‘s Alky burning supercharged AA/A running in the T/D class. He is the quickest sportsman car on the premises and dialed in a 6,86. He ran a winning 6,88.200.32 in the first round.
