SHAFIROFF'S BRACKET CAR?
Agent 1320 ran across old friend Scott Shafiroff at the
PRI Show and asked the legendary East Coast street racer
what he was racing these days. Turns out Shafiroff has
this door car that he races at E-town and Atco. We got
the idea that some money may change hands when he races
the car, so we asked what it ran. 6.60's he replied. And
then he told us that he had actually entered the car at
the Moroso 5-day Bracket race, but went out in the first
round when he dialed 6.70 and ran 6.60. [12-21-2004]
GOT A HANGOVER?
We'll tell you this a little bit ahead of time, so you can
plan your holiday festivities. The 4th Annual Hangoverfest
will be held January 1, 2005 at Cordova Dragway Park in
Cordova, IL. The race is designed mostly for street driven
vehicles, with racing open for everyone. Gates open at (hold
your head) 10:00 a.m. and racing starts an hour later. Admission
is only $10.00 to race or watch.
Track owner Scott Gardner will hand out free aspirin, and
if you're over 21 and not racing, the Bloody Mary's are
only a buck. A new addition for the '05 event will be "Diamond"
Jim Crownhart's jet Funny Car. Sounds like you might need
those aspirin. [12-21-2004]
KELLEY TO RACE A COROLLA
Sport Compact driver Scott Kelley is parking his VW fastback
after he signed a three-year deal with Toyota Racing Development
to run a 2005 Corolla XRS. Scott finished third in 2004
NHRA Summit Sport Compact Series All-Motor points. His dad,
Larry, will continue as crew chief.
The Kelleys, from Yorba Linda, CA have run their Toyo Tires-sponsored
Bullet Fastback and Toyo will move over to the TRD-backed
Corolla with a three-year commitment also. Scott said, "This
year with TRD power and Toyo's support we will be able to
pull to the line knowing we can run with anyone." [12-21-2004]
