WHO SAYS YOU HAVE TO HAVE A DRAGSTER?
The Agent has heard from many bracket racers that you can't
win with a door car running against dragsters in any of
the .90 classes. Someone forgot to tell Greg Venture. He
won the largest 8.90 Super Comp race in the history of The
Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway earlier this year when
he drove his 1966 Nova to the winners circle over some of
the best
dragster drivers in the sport. [12-21-2004]
LYNCH, PETTY RECEIVE TURBO AWARD
The race team of driver Tim Lynch and Steve Petty received
Precision Turbo & Engine's first ever Customer Achievement
award at the PRI Show in Indianapolis for being the first
team to break the 6-second barrier for ten-wide cars with
a 6.96/207.43 mph lap at E-town earlier this year. Their
"Shredder II" Mustang runs twin Precision turbos.
A tip of the Agent's fedora and congratulations from the
DRO staff to the Lynch Mob for making a sub-seven-second
run on 10.5 wide tires. [12-21-2004]

A FIVE WILL COME IN '05
Don't think you'll see a five-second blown Pro Mod at the
first AMS/TLR
race of the season at Gainesville? Well, if Troy Coughlin
is right, you will. During recent testing at Bradenton,
Coughlin said, "We figured we picked up 300 horsepower
at least, so we had some work to do to figure out the new
combination." Troy also mentioned that his car would
run a hundred pounds lighter than it did last year.
Let's see, Al Billes ran a 6.10 at 20 percent overdrive
and 2700 lbs at Rockingham at the last IHRA race of the
season. How quick and fast would he have gone one hundred
pounds lighter and with 300 more hp? Can you say 5.80's
at 240? [12-21-2004]
JEG AND BOB ARE PLAYING NICE
Under
the guidance of 10-time world titleholder Bob Glidden, who
will serve as his crew chief in 2005 and beyond, Jeg Coughlin
got acquainted with his Schumacher Racing stable mates and
the subtleties of his new car with several test squirts
at Bradenton. Mixing in a healthy dose of burnouts and half-track
runs, Coughlin took his ride to the other end six times,
logging several low-6.7 second passes, including a pair
of 6.70s at 205 mph.
"We're very pleased with the car and how it responded,"
Jeg said. "The conditions were nearly perfect, especially
the first few days, and some other teams ran astronomical
numbers, but we weren't really trying to do that. Probably
the thing I'm most pumped up about is how we all got along
as a team. Working with Bob Glidden is almost an unreal
experience. I mean, I grew up admiring the man and it's
hard to comprehend that we'll be working together as teammates
now. I feel very fortunate to have him in our corner."
