DANISH LANDS AT FONTANA

Well
it's official: Dave Danish has landed at California
Dragway in Fontana. Danish was spotted all Valentine's
Day weekend observing the facility and running
the place for the Super Street, Pro Gas, Super
Comp and Super Eliminator race in his new California
Speedway clothing. For the last few years Danish
was track manager at Southwestern International
Raceway in Tucson, AZ.
Record numbers of drag cars showed-up at the
new facility and tested the surface, the staff
and timing system at this early season race.
Record entries of 107 Super Street racers led
larger than expected car counts in all the categories.
In the SoCal Super Street Finals Dave Fargo
beat Wayne Newman and in the Pro Gas final Jon
Breazeu defeated Doug Bracey. [2-17-2004]
ALL IN THE FAMILY
The
Agent spotted one new racer and her clean
machine among the competitive Fontana field
in Super Comp. Charlotte Lucas, mother of
Lucas Oil Series Top Alcohol Dragster pilot
Morgan, made her competition debut at the
wheel of her own dragster. Charlotte earned
her competition license last fall and her
future looks bright as she made it to the
Semi's. Like mother, like son. [2-17-2004] |

VOICE FROM THE PAST
You'll
be hearing a change in the radio advertising
for the 2004 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing series
and it's kind of a retro change. One of the
Agent's SoCal operatives was cruising for burgers
the other night and heard a radio commercial
for the 44th annual K&N Filters Winternationals
with a familiar voice: Larry Huffman.
You may have heard Huffman's energetic voice
used for motorsports like stadium motocross,
speedway motorcycles, and commercials for motorcycle
manufacturers, but some fans of drag racing
may remember his powerful tones for SoCal's
Orange County International Raceway in its '70s
heyday.
Jim Trace, Director of Broadcasting & Video
at NHRA, decided to return to those thrilling
days of yesteryear and bring on Huffman for
a three-race test since they were "looking for
something different" to promote national events.
Trace added, "It looks like it's working out."
Huffman couldn't be happier with the relationship.
The Agent sends his props to NHRA for making
what sounds like a good turn in marketing by
grabbing a voice from the Golden Days of drag
racing promotion. Be there! [2-17-2004]
