NEW CAR FOR CANNON?
Scotty Cannon told DRO that he would probably
have to get a new car to be competitive in NHRA
Pro Mod competition. Cannon, who has six career
World Championships in the Pro Mod class, may
be the last racer using a swing arm suspension
on his Murray Anderson-built Studebaker. There
are two other Murray Anderson-built cars currently
competing on the NHRA AMS Staff Leasing tour
including Jim Oddy's 2002 'Vette and Brad Anderson's
'69 Camaro. Oddy's 'Vette started out with a
swing arm and has been converted to a four-link
and Anderson's Camaro has a unique Murray Anderson
designed non-adjustable four-link.
As Cannon told DRO, "If you want to run with
these guys you will need a four-link car." Evidently
the only question is who will build the Pro
Mod legend his new ride -- and please, not another
'63 'Vette! Please!!! (3-24-2004)
RESTRICTOR PLATE RACING
IN TOP FUEL?
The hot rumor floating around the Top Fuel area in Gainesville was that NHRA is determined to do something about the speeds of the Top Fuel dragsters and Nitro Coupes. Two suggestions that the Agent heard were that NHRA would have some kind of rev-limiter device installed on the cars to limit them to 8000 rpm. The other was to develop a restrictor plate that would fit between the bottom of the supercharger and the surface of the intake manifold.
This has been suggested before and rejected. More rumors about this as the
Agent hears them. Some kind of decision could
be forthcoming soon as the competition committee
meets this week and the Agent's guess is this
issue will be on the table.
