Robbins, from Mooresville, NC, had the new
car with him to have it certified by NHRA inspectors
at the track. He says it has
"the latest of everything," including trick
titanium parts wherever possible and complete
carbon-fiber nose and doors. Robbins plans to
transplant the three-stage nitrous-equipped
Fulton 686 engine from the Nova to this car,
which should be ready in time for the next ORSCA
race. (Ian Tocher photo)

SMITH GETS LICENSED
Lloyd
Smith also debuted this new '67 'Vette at the
Atlanta ORSCA race, making several passes to
earn his NHRA Super Comp license. Sporting brown
primer and a naturally aspirated 540 c.i. Reher-Morrison
up front, the car's best effort came on Smith's
final lap, when he went 8.86 seconds at 152
mph. He plans to race it in Quick 8 and bracket
races throughout the Southeast. Smith put the
car together at his Sharpsburg, GA, home from
a Level Three chassis kit offered by Richard
Earle at Suncoast Race Cars in Homosassa, FL.
