BYE-BYE BACA
Citing
pressing business commitments and lack of a
primary marketing partner, Top Fuel driver David
Baca withdrew the Henkelman & Baca Motorsports
dragster from the NHRA tour after the O'Reilly
Summer Nationals in Topeka, KS.
"When and if the time's right and we have secured
a major sponsor, I will once again revisit the
possibility of racing," Baca said. "Racing in
NHRA's highest class has been a dream come true
and the next time I do this I want to have the
financial wherewithal to be able to contend
for the championship."
Baca was eliminated in round one by Doug Herbert
and leaves the POWERade tour No. 12 with 372
points. (Zak Hawthorne

WEST MOVES TO SNAKE RACING
With David Baca hanging up his gloves for the foreseeable future that left Johnny West a free agent and it didn't take long for him to find a home over at Don Prudhomme racing. Veteran nitro tuner West will team with crew chief Mike Green replacing former CSK tuner Garry Kennedy on the Tommy Johnson Jr. Skoal Racing Monte Carlo.
With the recent addition of Roland Leong to Ron Capps' Skoal Green team, the
Snake's take-no-prisoners attitude is characteristic
of his days as a driver and should put him back
in the winners circle soon. [6-1-2004]
