TOP COMP AT 'THE STRIP'
DRO's editor used to campaign a blown gas dragster
in the AHRA Top Comp class years ago with his
friend and partner Dave Koehler, so he has a
soft spot in his heart for the class. NHRA's
Division 6 has added a Top Comp class at selected
division races. For the third straight year
the finals for the series will at the Strip
at Las Vegas Nov. 5-7. There is a qualified
48-car field paying the winner $1600. Drag Racing
Online will ante up $100 for Top Speed of the
meet for the class. Look for coverage of the
race in DRO. [6-17-2004]
MARSHALL WHEELING & DEALING
IN VEGAS
Veteran
photographer, DRO columnist at large, and FOB
(Friend of Burkster), Tim (don't call me Timmy)
Marshall has moved his act out of the friendly
confines of SoCal where he lived all of his
life and relocated to Las Vegas, NV. He will
work as a track photograher at The Strip at
Las Vegas Motor Speedway, thanks to director
Chris Blair. Tim will cover the many drag racing
events at the track for DRO while in training
to take over as a Gondola driver for Steve Wynn.
Congrats, Timmy, and remember, never bet against
the house. [6-17-2004]
HYDROGEN POWER NEXT FOR
SHELBY
We can send OPEC a message and save the environment
for our grandchildren at the same time by changing
from vehicles powered by gasoline to those using
hydrogen for fuel. Carroll Shelby thinks it
can happen. In fact, the legendary octogenarian
car builder is bringing out a Hydrogen Shelby
Cobra. The two-seat sports car will be available
from Hydrogen Car Co. in Los Angeles with a
price range of $149,000 to $175,000. The Cobra's
internal combustion V-8 engine burns hydrogen,
making it cleaner and more fuel efficient than
the gasoline-fed version, but the car "still
would let a guy have a little fun," according
to Shelby.
Now when they bring out a nitrous kit for this,
they'll really have the Agent's attention.
