and Scott Kelley took home the All-Motor Wally.
Ron Lummus driving the Garrett Turbos/Bothwell
Motorsports Pontiac won Hot Rod in an upset
victory, posting a 8.669 over former Bothwell
driver Marty Ladwig's 8.989. Lummus set a new
National Record mile per hour at 181.20. Steve
Bothwell, who headed GM Racing's Sport Compact
fleet through last season, completely rebuilt
the 2003 Hot Rod class racecar and as Bothwell
stated, "I think we used six tubes from the
chassis of the previous car."
Bothwell has also been testing a new Pro FWD
car for NHRA competition later this year.
A couple of Dallas NHRA participants commented
to the Agent about the light car count (34)
and very few spectators in the Motorplex grandstands,
but according to one observer, Saturday's Hot
Import Nights event was "packed." (DRO

GILBERTSON NAMES BRAINERD
INTERNS
Chad Fette, a phone company technician and
Chris Durensky, an automotive tech student,
have been chosen as nitro interns for Bob Gilbertson's
Trick Tank Funny Car team at the Lucas Oil NHRA
Nationals this weekend at Brainerd Int'l Raceway.
"My ultimate goal is to become a crew member
of a fuel team," said Durensky. "When I got
the call I was overwhelmed. This is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity and I'm going to consider this to
be my audition." [8-9-2004]
