SPORT COMPACTS BATTLE AT FONTANA

Battle Of the Imports at Fontana's California Dragway had a good turnout of bracket cars, all motor cars, and spectators judged by some local sport compact regulars as a better crowd than the NHRA's Sport Compact race held at the track earlier this year.

According to a strip official, the NHRA Sport Compact Series will not be returning to California Dragway in 2005 since it was a less than favorable financial arrangement for the drag strip, not living up to prior predictions. The new management at California Dragway is finding that one-day meets, as put on by Battle of the Imports and NOPI, are better venues for bringing in the sport compact fans. [8-9-2004]

air as originally scheduled August 16 at 3 p.m. (Top Fuel and Pro Mod classes) and August 21 at 5 p.m. (Funny Car and Pro Stock).
