SIX-OH TOP SPORTSMAN?
Agent 1320 found out that O’Fallon,
MO (home of DRO) racer Randy Matlock has purchased
the Alan Johnson blower motor that powered
car builder Tim McAmis’s ‘63 ‘Vette
to six-oh elapsed times in NHRA Pro Modified
competition in 2003. Matlock bought the motor
from McAmis’s partner. McAmis has Matlock’s ‘57
shoebox (above) in his Hawk Point, MO shop
being fitted for the new engine. Matlock told
the Agent that he intends to run the ‘57
at the CMTS Outlaw Pro Mod races at Gateway
International this year and next, as well as
selected other events in the area. According
to the Agent’s sources Tim McAmis will
go to the races with the car at the first couple
of events to help get it dialed in. (Jeff

THE YOUNGEST PRO MOD DRIVER
Now that Pro Mod phenom Zach Barklage has
passed his teenage years he has also passed
the title as the youngest Pro Mod racer on
to his younger brother Cody (above with father,
Mark). Sixteen-year-old Cody, who has an NHRA
advanced ET license, became what the Agent
believes to be the youngest driver ever to
qualify for a professional category at an NHRA
or IHRA sanctioned event and track, when he
qualified for the 16-car Outlaw Pro Mod show
Aug. 14 at Gateway (St. Louis) International
Raceway with a 4.562/156.39.
The youngest of the Barklage clan is having
a new 2005 GTO built by Jerry Bickel to replace
the 3,000 lb ‘72 model he currently drives.
Look for both the Barklage Boys during the
2005 Pro Mod season. A tip of the Agent’s
fedora to the Mark Barklage and son Cody for
a job well done. (Jeff
