NEW OUTLAW 10.5 ENTRIES
Two new Outlaw 10.5 cars were strutting their
stuff Aug. 14-15 at the TFRA race at Silver
Dollar Raceway in Reynolds, GA. Making its
debut was Carlton Thompson’s 2004 Mustang
with a turbocharged 400 running up front, and
in just its second outing was Tim West’s
2002 Camaro powered by a three-stage nitrous-equipped
706.

For Thompson, from Tallahassee, FL, it was
a return to action after crashing his Limited
Street ‘Stang at Phenix City, AL, in
April. The car was built by Thompson and crew
chief Steve Truman and went 5.05 over the eighth
mile its first time out in race trim. Thompson
eventually qualified 13th with a 4.938 at 150.23,
but failed to stage for round one against Marcus
Birt.
West also built his own car with the help
of Billy Macteer at West’s shop in Bainbridge,
GA. He initially brought it out a few weeks
earlier at Cecil Dragway, but had engine troubles
there. At Silver Dollar, West was hindered
by a misaligned shift linkage that prevented
him from leaving low gear in his first two
qualifying attempts, but eventually made the
show in seventh place with a 4.857-secs pass
at 146.69 mph. West ran 4.892 in a first-round
bye, but fell to eventual race winner Jack
Barfield in round two. (Ian

SECOND GENERATION WENEY
WINNER
Rory Krupp, son of former IHRA Funny Car Champion
Scott Weney, is following in his father’s
footsteps. The 18-year-old racer made the final
round two days in a row at the Maple Grove
(PA) Raceway’s Sunoco Money Trail bracket
series, getting the overall win on Aug. 7 and
a runner-up finish the next day in Super Pro.
Rory built the car himself from a kit as a
high school senior project. (Okay, maybe dad
helped just a bit.) (photo courtesy S&W
